Polylactic Acid PLA How it works ?
As PLA is derived from natural, renewable, starch rich crop such as corn, potato, people also call it “Corn plastic”.
Under compost condition, PLA will decompose into lactic acid when polymers are broken down. Lactic acid will decompose into water and carbon dioxide by bacteria.
It will take 90-180 days under compost condition according to different size and thickness of the products.
Same as the others plastic products. PLA products can be used under normal condition. However, as PLA(non-crystallized) is not heat-resistant, it is recommended to be used under the temperature of 50°C.
Storage: Dry, ventilated and cool environment with optimal temperature under 40°C.
Delivery: Prevent from direct sunshine and pressing; use strong caton box; control temperature during container load by applying insulated materials.
CPLA, Crystallized Polylactic Acid
Through the crystallization of PLA our CPLA products can withstand high temperatures up to 85°C without deforming. For our cutlery and coffee cups lids, food coloring or coffee grounds etc is added to create the colour. This does not conflict with overall composting properties of CPLA.
As CPLA is derived from PLA, it is 100% biodegradable and compostable according to the EN-13432 standard. At the end of life, PLA based products can be either recycled or composted in industrial composting facilities.
